Code design extensions in version 17
17.0
SCIA Engineeris well known for supporting the Eurocodes including National annexes. In the last release (version 17) we have implemented most of the functionalities of 5 more National Annex for Cyprus, Denmark, Italy, Norway, Spain and Sweden. The integration of more codes in one software platform is both financial and technical benefit for our users.
Besides that, existing NADs are always kept up-to-date whenever the updates are published, thus enabling the engineers to deliver projects in full compliance with the code.

Extension of National Annexes
Besides the implementation of the Eurocode methodology, SCIA Engineer contains a library of national annexes where country-specific methods and parameters are available.
The table below gives an overview of extended National Annexes and code references. The National Annexes Manager allows the user to verify and adapt nationally determined parameters.

Material library
In some cases the National Annexes support additional material classes. The material library has been enlarged with missing classes from British BS EN-NA, Austrian ONORM - EN NA, Irish IS-EN NA and German DIN -EN NA.
Concrete material library
- C6/8 (British BS-EN NA)
- C8/10 (British BS-EN NA)
- C28/35 (British BS-EN NA)
- C32/40 (British BS-EN NA)
- C28/35 (Irish I.S.-EN NA)

Code updates
The current implementation of the Czech National Annexes to EN 1993 has been updated to the latest version of the NA's.
This concerns the following codes:
-
EN 1993-1-1: CSN EN 1993-1-1/NA es.A:2016-06
-
EN 1993-1-2: CSN EN 1993-1-2/NA es A.:2012-03
-
EN 1993-1-5: CSN EN 1993-1-3/Z1:2010-03
-
EN 1993-1-8: CSN EN 1993-1-3/Z1:2010-03
Error/Warning/Note reporting
The output of the code-based design contains, along with the values of all unity checks, some additional information which is hard to communicate to the user using numbers. Warnings and notes may be just as relevant as the unity checks, as these may mean that the chosen solution is not advisable (i.e., it does not fulfil all the code requirements, it cannot be executed on site, etc.). And errors prevent the check from being performed altogether. Therefore, it is important to communicate such verbal messages clearly and in the most accessible way possible.
SCIA Engineer now provides a unified approach to reporting errors, warnings and notes coming from the design checks to the 3D scene and to the report:
- arrows point to members or sections in the model where a problem occurs; the problematic entities can also be highlighted;
- an identifier (abbreviated designation) is printed next to each arrow to show which issue occurs where;
- hovering on this identifier shows a tooltip with the full description of the issue; the full description contains also the information on how to fix the problem;
- all identifiers and their full description can also be listed below a brief report;
- a summary of all occurring issues can also be printed in the Result Legend;
- members or specific locations on members with errors or warnings are also being considered as critical, together with the locations that have extreme unity check values. The user can easily filter all critical locations and take appropriate actions.
This development makes the finding of problems in the model or in the chosen design solution easier and very quick. Moreover, the user can tweak where the different types of issues (errors vs. warnings and notes) will be displayed simply through the properties of the check itself.
