Engineering Report templates
As of SCIA Engineer 2013.0 we have a new, modern and easy to use Engineering Report in our beloved software, packed with powerful features.
Missing and highly prioritized by clients however was the possibility to store a report as a template and reuse it in a later project.
Version 14 remedies this demand
Creating a template
The use of templates is really simple. You start by defining an Engineering Report as you would normally do, by adding all the desired items to the navigator
Then, next to the "Print" and "Export" options a new feature emerges, called "Save as template"
Name and description fields are available to add some information about the template.
The whole document can be stored as template or just a part of it. The templates are stored in the User folder, under subfolder "DocumentDefaults/ReportTemplates.
For optimal usage you are free to create additional hierarchical levels (by means of folders) to manage your templates.
Use a template
To reuse the available templates, you can simple insert them as you would do for any other report item.
There is a new chapter in the "Insert items" window, called "Report templates" containing both the
- "Default templates" as well as the
- "User templates" (including the custom defined hierarchical folder structure)
You can insert this template at the position of the cursor into the current report by a simple double-click.
By refreshing the document, the new navigator items will be filled with the actual project data.
Following templates are available by default
- 0D Reactions
- 1D Deformations
- 1D Internal Forces
- 2D Displacements
- 2D Internal Forces
- 2D Required reinforcement areas EC-EN
- 2D Scheme of Reinforcement
- Analysis model description
- D12a Text part
- D12b Drawings
- D12c Structural Design
- Drawing Example
- EC-EN national annex values
- EC-EN steel check
- EC-EN Timber Check
- 0D Reactions
containing: result class, table with reaction, picture with reaction forces, picture with reaction moments, table with reaction resultants
In case of more result classes, more chapters will be generated
- EC-EN steel check
containing: slenderness table, picture with Iy and Iz, result class, brief output with extremes per member, graphical output with extremes per member,
detailed output of the steel check
They can be used as such or in any combination imaginable.
Templates can be considered as a kind of snippet; multiple templates can be inserted in the same report.
This way large, yet custom documents can be created rather quickly.
Design Forms in Engineering Report
Design Forms was one of the major novelties last year.
As you know, Design Forms is a stand alone tool, complementary to SCIA Engineer, and focusses on small and dedicated calculationswith a clear and transparent output.
In SCIA Engineer 14 you will be able to link Design Forms for 1D members directly to SCIA Engineer. Integration of other kinds of checks will come in the near future.
Still, SCIA Engineer 14 will already bring Design Forms and SCIA Engineer closer together.
The Engineering Report in SCIA Engineer 14 will feature a new item in the "Special Items" Group, which will enable you to insert a Design Form right into your report
Once inserted, the edit-button will automatically launch the USER application and load the desired Design Form
In the USER you do your calculation as you would do in the stand alone form.
Upon Exit, the output of the calculation is inserted in the Engineering Report.
Please note that ONE Design Forms item in the navigator corresponds to and is linked with a Design Forms project, which can in fact contain multiple calculations;
The Engineering Report will display all the outputs included in the project, separated by a pagebreak.
The data, used in the calculations is also stored in the SCIA Engineer project.
This allows you to easily edit, change or update a calculation.
Next to one Design Forms item with multiple calculations, you can also opt for multiple Design Forms items with one (or more calculations).
