Wizard for reinforcement schemes

2013

SCIA Engineer 2013 includes a new ‘wizard’ for the automatic generation of reinforcement schemes, for beams and columns with practical reinforcement.

The option ‘Scheme of reinforcement’ has been available for a long time in the ‘View parameter settings’ window. Its display per member has now been automated by means of a wizard. The user can choose to generate pictures based on several parameters (e.g. scale), for all or a selection of the reinforced 1D members in the project. The schemes present the position of all reinforcement bars (stirrups, longitudinal bars, free bars) including some basic information like the number, diameter and length of bars, and the chosen steel grade.

This wizard is available for all customers with a license for the input of practical reinforcement to 1D members (module esacdt.01 - also included in the Concept Edition).

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Project Data

The wizard is available in a Frame or General 3D environment in SCIA Engineer; no functionalities have to be activated.

Wizard

The wizard can be called after right-clicking in the graphical window.

First, the user selects a set of basic properties like scale, display mode, size and position of picture title, etc. – which will be used for the generation of all pictures. Any set of properties can be stored by the user as ‘default’.

Next, the user makes a selection of concrete 1D members with practical reinforcement. A picture will be generated then for each of these members, based on their Structural (CAD) model and displaying a simple reinforcement scheme. The scheme shows the position of all reinforcement bars (stirrups, longitudinal bars, free bars) including some basic information (number, diameter and length of bars, chosen steel grade). In case anchorages have been defined, these are displayed as well!

Picture gallery

The picture gallery opens automatically now, but can be accessed at any time from the Main menu > Drawing tools > Picture gallery. All generated pictures are grouped here and can be previewed together with their properties.

Editing

The picture properties can be easily adapted, for 1 picture or for more at once.

Further editing is also possible, e.g. adding dimension lines or extra text, changing the view point, etc.

Updating

At all times, the pictures created by the wizard can be updated to take into account any modifications in the 3D model. This action ‘regenerate pictures’ has to be performed by the user, after selecting the pictures to be updated.

Exporting

The picture gallery supports the export to a wide range of file formats:

In case more than one picture is selected for export, a corresponding set of new files is created in the folder chosen by the user. The naming is done by default as ‘File name_Picture name’.

In this way, the complete set of pictures with reinforcement schemes can be exported to *dwg/dxf format for further editing in other (CAD) software.

Paperspace gallery

Directly plotting the generated pictures is possible via the Paperspace gallery. This tool can be accessed via the Main menu > Drawing tools > Paperspace gallery.

The user can select a paper format and layout, and import a set of pictures from the wizard to be put together. The final plot layout can be saved to different file formats or sent to a printer.

Engineering Report

Any pictures from the Picture gallery (also including the ones created by the wizard) can be inserted into the new Engineering Report.
