Punching improvements in SCIA Engineer 19.1
In SCIA Engineer 19.1 are introduced two features that extend the possibilities of punching design. First feature is design with column heads and second is reduction of punching shear force for design of foundation slabs. To reinforce locally supported slab, column heads are often used. In SCIA Engineer 19.1 it is possible to include in punching check column head defined by a subregion over the column. To achieve more economical design of punching reinforcement in foundation slabs SCIA Engineer 19.1 allows to use reduction of punching force calculated from contact stresses under the connected foundation slab.

The most convenient way to model column heads in SCIA Engineer is by means of subregions. Punching check in SCIA Engineer 19.1 takes into account the thickness of subregion at the location of intersection between column and floor slab. This thickness is then used for check of crushing of the concrete of the slab in shear. The thickness of the column head that was taken into account in the check is available in the preview of the check results.
Consider the case of foundation slab supported by a surface support and the load is transferred from the superstructure by means of columns. The considerable normal force in the column causes corresponding contact stresses below the foundation slab. In SCIA Engineer 19.1 it is possible to apply reduction of punching shear force by resultant value of contact stress present in the direct vicinity of the connection point.
