NBR Concrete Improvements



Brazilian Concrete Code – NBR 6118

The version 15 of SCIA Engineer brought the Brazilian Concrete Code based on our powerful technology Open Design (Design Forms integration) for 1D member design and a hardcoded solution for 2D members design.

Only ULS was available for the design of 1D member, including the longitudinal and shear reinforcement design, check response and the local second order effects for approximated methods. For 2D members, it was possible only the calculation of the longitudinal reinforcement for ULS. The settings used the typical menus from SDF, i.e., each calculation has its own local setting.

The version 16 brings a brand new Brazilian Concrete Code. A new menu was made much more user friendly and functional. All old calculations were reviewed, improved and extend and new ones were added.

Now, the global settings are following the new standards for new codes released based on the Open Design technology with Filters, sorting and searching according to string, possibility to show only changed values, views according to checks, chapters and user defined views.

All the local settings are combined in only one menu, where the setting are according to type of member and have a transparent arrangement.

For 1D members, now the user can use for the local second order effects the approximated methods, the diagram M, N, 1/r, besides the general method using the SCIA Engineer’s standard functionalities for PGNL. The design of 1D members takes in account bending, shear and torsion for the directions y and z in only one menu item (multi design). New calculation was added for SLS design of 1D member and now the user can check the crack with and the long term deflection.

With the evolution of the Design Forms, it was possible to rewrite all the 2D design using this technology. The shear design was added, the reports are much more transparent, maintenance of the code becomes easier and crack width was implemented (SLS).
